Raging Distractions Or Calm Listening?

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge." (Psalm 46:10-11 NKJ)

As the world swirls around me and my hectic life meanders along, many voices clamor for my attention. Amid the constant barrage of instant communications, I find myself encumbered with information overload. And the bad thing about it is that I may fail to hear God's voice.

With all the fear-mongering being passed on through the news media and the natural disasters that are reported, the urgent response is to develop a hiding place, a safe house, a secure retreat.

But my God is a present help and a constant refuge, even in the midst of turbulent circumstances. He is with me, despite economic upheavals, despite political shenanigans, despite social raging and so forth. God is with me despite health concerns, despite broken relationships, despite career disruptions and so on. God is with me!

For me the problem is calming myself so that I can hear his voice. He invites me to "Be still and know that I am God." When I am mesmerized by my circumstances, I am like Peter trying to walk on the sea. But when I stop looking at the circumstances. When I focus on God. Something marvelous happens. I exalt him and he enables me to walk on the raging sea of circumstances.

There are many false prophets in our world today. There are many deceivers propagating their deceptive schemes and philosophies. And if I listen to them, I'll always be distracted from hearing God's voice. But if I stop and calm my spirit. If I shut out all the cacophony of human distractions, there in the peace I hear his voice.

Dear Father, thank you for who you are. Enable me to be calm and listen to your voice. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

In the calm, God gives direction for the circumstances. Listen to him today!
