"'In an
acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped
you.' Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of
salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2 NKJ)
No one likes to get
bad news, a bad diagnosis. The kind of news no one wants to hear, at any age.
It's just too much to absorb all at once or to deal with effectively. It
usually takes us some time to get a handle on it.
We all handle such
news differently. Some fall apart and need therapy. Others react practically.
Still others begin to view life through a new prism. Everything takes on a new
hue. Things not noticed in the past are now fresh and appreciated. Issues put off
are now important and on the cutting edge of life.
When confronted with
a short life expectancy, the urgency of living life to its fullest looms into
focus. No more procrastination. Do it now becomes the driving force and motto.
It becomes easy to list our priorities and pursue them.
But an amazing thing
also occurs. As we pursue our "bucket list," we think we can still
beat the odds. And that is a good thing from the mental, emotional and
psychological side of things. Doctors tell us that a positive attitude is one
of the best health weapons in our arsenal. If we think we can beat the odds, we
will fight to live and that improves the medical odds in our favor.
How wonderful it
would be if we would adopt that attitude in our spiritual lives and apply it to
our eternal destiny. No time like the present. Don't wait for the right moment.
Each moment is the right moment, each moment is the time to act. By accepting
Christ as Savior and Lord, we have already beat the odds. So, don't be
complacent . . . be excited about living!
Dear Father, thank
you for your presence here and now. Empower us to live every moment with the
urgency of eternity. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Don't wait, today,
is the best time to act,
