Today is
good day to reflect upon our God. Consider how we might describe him. God is
like . . . Oh, sure you can finish the sentence. Simply say what God is like to
you. To Hosea, God described himself as being like a green fir tree. Think
about it. What attributes of a green fir tree resemble God?
The fir
tree is majestic. God is majesty personified. The fir tree is green and alive.
God is life. He has defeated death, hell, and the grave. The fir tree is green
in all seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. And it continues to be green
year after year. God is eternal. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
Look
around. Can you discover other illustrations that accurately describe God?
Perhaps, it is better to start with reflecting on what God is like to you. Who
is he? What are his attributes? How does he act? What has he done?
And give
him praise for who he is! He is the One who died that we might have life
to its fullest extent. He is the all-Mighty God! He is the ever-present God! He
is the all-sufficient God! He is our Savior and our King!
Dear
Father, we praise you for who you are. Empower us with a grateful heart
overflowing with praise and gratitude. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus.
