Praise the Creator

“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.” (Psalm 113:2-4 KJV)

During our recent trip to Maui, Hawaii, Sylvester and I decided to drive up to Haleakala National Park. The highway had lots of curves, very little shoulder and a very deep descent along the edge of the mountain. Yet, it was a beautiful drive up the mountain. The temperature change was noticeable as we ascended to the top.

We stopped at a restaurant near the town of Kula and I instantly noted the cold since I had only worn flip flops and no jacket. As we entered the Kula Lodge restaurant for breakfast, we were impressed by a welcome but unexpected sight. I mean in Hawaii one doesn’t often think a fireplace would be necessary, but there it was giving comfort and warmth. It made this travel experience even more memorable.

We ate an inexpensive country breakfast alongside a cozy and warm hearth. It was such a comforting incident of smells and sights that reminded us of childhood and family back home. Just to feel the warmth of the fire was so good and comforting.

As we sat there enjoying a last cup of coffee and the beautiful sights across the Kula Valley, a spirit of contentment settled upon us. We talked about how easy it would be to just stay there for the rest of the day. From a 180 degree view, the beauty of God’s creation was mesmerizing and the warmth of the fireplace simply made us not want to leave.

On the other hand, there was more of God’s handiwork to see further up the mountain. So, we left the warmth of the Kula Lodge to continue our trip to Haleakala. As we did so, I was continuously awed by the sights of the clouds and the mountain. God has created such marvelous beauty for us to enjoy.

We finally reached the top 10,023 feet above sea level. Believe me when I tell you that words cannot describe the picturesque landscape we saw there. I can easily understand why tourists would drive up there before daybreak to see the sunrise or stay late in the evening to see the sunset.  It was truly amazing to see the clouds below us, around us, and above us.  God’s creation never ceases to amaze me! It excites me and makes me want to see what heaven is like.

Dear Father, truly your name is to be praised from the rising of the sun until it sets. Empower us to give you praise every moment. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today praising the Creator,

(written by Bobbie Smith)
