Walking In God's Grace

" And the LORD said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.' But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (Genesis 6:7-8 KJV)

We who have lived in grace all our days cannot imagine what it was like to stand on the precipice of eternal judgment without an advocate to defend us or a hope of mercy. Yet, that is the scene described in our text passage above.

God, the Creator of the universe and all that is therein said, "I will destroy mankind whom I have created." No equivocation. Not maybe. Not I am considering. Simply, "I will." And with him there "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17).

But our God is not so easily explained. Remember, "Noah walked with God" (Gen. 6:9). Evidently Noah had learned from the example of his great-grandfather Enoch. As far as we know there were no Scriptures in Noah's day, but walking with God he had learned that "a day in (God's) courts is better than a thousand." Noah had decided that "(He) had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of (his) God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness" (Psalm 84:10). And we may be certain that wickedness of Noah's society was greater than we can imagine.

However, his relationship with the Creator paid off. "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." The same one who said, "I will destroy" was also Noah's shield! Remember, our God "will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly" (Psalm 84:11).

"O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee" (Psalm 84:12 KJV).

Dear Father, thank you for grace through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Empower us to walk with you rather than dwell in the tents of wickedness. I pray this in the  name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today walking in God's grace,
