The Lord Who Is On Our Side

"If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over our soul. Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 124:1-8 KJV)

Songwriter J. B. Coats wrote, "Living below in this old sinful world, Hardly a comfort can afford; Striving alone to face temptations sore, where could I go but to the Lord?" Yet, we can say, like Israel, "If it had not been that the Lord was on our side . . ."

Oh the Lord is on our side and victory is ours! It may seem like we are alone, but our Lord is right beside us. The enemy may rise up to engulf us, but our Lord makes a way of escape. When the enemy rages in wrath against us, our Lord sustains us. When the waters of this world overwhelm us and attempt to drown our soul, then the Lord reaches out his hand to rescue us.

Hallelujah! Our Lord has not allowed the enemy to succeed in his attacks. Praise his name! Like a bird from prison bars has flown, we have escaped the traps of the enemy. All the sorrows of this life will soon be finished and a glorious refuge is ours because our Lord is the Eternal One who made heaven and earth. Glory to his name!

Dear Father, thank you for choosing us to be on your side. Empower us with the confidence of knowing that victory is ours because you are on our side. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
