At her church,
everyone called her “Aunt Beatrice.” She was a joy to be around. She was a
small woman with a stooped posture, a shuffling gait, and gnarled hands that
looked painful. Yet, no one could ever remember hearing her complain. Instead,
Aunt Beatrice exuded love and joy; her smile was radiant. When visitors came
by, she insisted on serving them despite her infirmities. Aunt Beatrice was
always interested in what was happening in a young person’s life. Her example
of joy despite her physical pain was truly wonderful.
Aunt Beatrice died
several years back but her life still impacts those who knew her. Those
qualities in her life for which she was so well known were the fruit of the
Spirit. She lived them daily. Aunt Beatrice’s example is remembered by her
family and friends when the burdens and worries of life threaten to take away
their peace. It reminds them to let the fruit of the Spirit shine through in
everyday actions.
Dear Father, thank
you for the Spirit's fruit. Enable us to crucify our personal passions and
desires so that spiritual fruit may grow uninhibited. I pray this in the name
of Jesus. AMEN
Be strong and
courageous today letting the fruit of the Spirit show,
