"Now David
said, "Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be
built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious
throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it." So David
made abundant preparations before his death." (1Chronicles 22:5 KJV)
King David's
considerations for building the Lord's house is intriguing. He exhibits his
administrative skill and wisdom. It is amazing that his thinking is recorded
for us. Since it is recorded in the King's chronicles, it is probably a
distillation of his discussions in counsel with his government leaders.
His first
consideration concerns the age and experience of Solomon, who is being prepared
to lead and govern. And he considers how "all countries" will view
Jehovah's house when their representatives visit Jerusalem. How will the
reputation of the Lord be affected?
And he decides that
Jehovah's house "must be exceedingly magnificent" so that diplomats
from all countries will report how "glorious" it is and Jehovah's
reputation will be "famous" in the earth.
Then the King
concludes that he cannot leave such an enterprise totally in the hands of his
son, the future king. So, he decides that he will prepare for the day when
Solomon will be ready to build the Temple.
Just to think about the ramifications of such a huge project boggles the
mind.
Solomon must be both
spiritually and mentally prepared for his leadership in this project. In
effect, Solomon must catch his father's vision or the project will never get
beyond the King's council chambers. When we consider the number of years
involved, the expense, and that this project was for a worship venue, it truly
is an impressive achievement.
But King David
"made abundant preparations before his death." Design, blueprints, a
building site, building materials (type and quality), negotiating prices and
delivery dates, materials assembly point and warehousing, appropriating skilled
labor, and the list goes on. David's
bucket list before his death . . . to get every detail ready for the building
of Jehovah's house.
Dear Father, thank
you for the desire to glorify your name in all the earth. Empower me to prepare
the routines of today that I might faithfully achieve all your will. I pray
this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
What about God's
will for your life? Are you preparing abundantly?
