Then they also
brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it,
they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, "Let the little
children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
"Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a
little child will by no means enter it." (Luke 18:15-17 NKJ)
Once upon a time, in
the land of Africa in a country called Palestine lived a young rabbi. He had a
reputation for going around doing good. Everyone who met him knew that God was
with him. And he healed people of all sorts of diseases and demonic oppressions.
Once when he was
traveling through Samaria and Galilee on his way to Jerusalem, several mothers
brought their children to him asking the rabbi to lay his hands on them and
bless them. He was happy to do so, but some of his disciples told the mothers
this wasn't allowed.
And when the rabbi
saw his disciples turning the mothers and children away, he taught them the
following principle. "The Kingdom of God is like a little child." And
he further said, "Please let them come to me. Don't keep them away, because
anyone who does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will certainly not
get in it."
Children trust
simply and completely. Children accept and believe what is told to them.
Children love unconditionally. Children are generally joyful and energetic.
Children have no inhibitions or prejudices. Children forgive easily and fairly
quickly. Children ask, believe, and receive. If their request is not
immediately supplied favorably, they continue asking until it is. Children
generally obey without question.
The Kingdom of God .
. . only those who receive it like a little child will enter.
Dear Father, thank
you for not refusing children to come to you. Empower me with the spirit and
attitude of a child that I may obey you completely and without inhibition. I
pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Today portray a
childlike spirit and attitude.
