Move From Worry to Comfort For the Journey

"Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing." (Isaiah 40:26 NKJ)

As a boy, at night I used to lay on my back in our yard and look at the stars. The constellations were so beautifully arrayed across the heavens. I was mesmerized by the various outlines of stars. And somehow laying there on the ground looking up, I was comforted by the idea that all was right in the universe.

Back then I didn't know that God used the starry skies to comfort his people. Looking up and counting the stars reminds us that each one of them are hung by the Creator. They do not fall because of his strength and power.

If astronomy were of interest, I might be able to name a few of the stars, but the One who created them knows every one of them. And not one leaves its place without him knowing and giving it permission to do so. It comforts me to know that I serve the One who wields this power. It is comforting because I know that anything that confronts me is never too hard for him.

Lift up your eyes and look at the stars. Remember who created them. He tells them to shine. He calls them by their names. They are in their place every night because he hung them there. They do not change position or shoot across the sky without his permission. What a comfort!

And when life throws us a curve, the curve is only in our minds never in God's. When to us things seem out of control, they still obey God. We may think, "God is not listening," but he is neither asleep nor distracted. We may think, "God doesn't know, " but he is neither ignorant nor confused about our need.

God understands everything about us and is never weary of hearing our requests for help. Every human being needs help from time to time, and God is there for those who call on him. The problem is that humans are not normally patient. We want our need to be cleared up with the utmost speed as soon as possible. But patience brings renewal and strength to continue the journey.

Dear Father, thank you for the comfort we have in you. Renew our strength and enable us to soar like the eagle. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Lift your head. Look up. Focus on God. Trust in God.
