"I will be a
Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
(2 Corinthians 6:18 - 7:1 NKJ)
I guess everyone may
have a "junk room." It's the room in our home where clutter collects.
Of course, we don't think of it as "junk." They are special treasures
that we have collected over the years and never placed in their proper places.
Some of the items don't even have a place.
Every time I look
into the room, I tell myself that it is time to get organized, throw away some
stuff, put away other stuff, and so forth. But procrastination raises its ugly
head and I move on to the currently pressing issue, promising myself that I will
deal with the junk room at a more opportune time.
In the middle of
surveying the room once again, my spiritual eye fixed on myself. I began to
wonder just how much clutter exists in me. Issues that should be dealt with
openly and honestly rather than shoved to the side. Damaged relationships. Hurt
feelings. Anger and bitterness. I suppose the list could be a long one.
Needless to say,
such spiritual clutter causes the soul to get grimy. Over time, it happens
incrementally. We think we will deal with it later and fail to notice that it
is accumulating. Then one day -- today perhaps -- our eyes are opened to the
reality that it isn't going to magically disappear. We must do something about
it. Will we tackle it alone or get some help?
I suppose we might
compare ourselves to an old computer. Are we worth renovating and upgrading?
Or, are we outdated with a dead battery and wholly inadequate for today's
tasks? Well, I still hope in the Lord and am confident that he's not finished
with me yet. I just have to let the Holy Spirit upgrade my soul by scraping off
the spiritual clutter and grime. And then resist letting it build up again.
Dear Father, thank
you for Holy Spirit renewal. Empower me to deal with life's clutter and pursue
your will for my life. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Yield to the Holy
Spirit. Allow him to cleanse your soul.
