How To Avoid the Post-Christmas Blues

"Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them." (Luke 2:20 NKJ)

A few years ago I wrote the following poem. It is entitled, The Day After Christmas. It always makes me smile and reboots a balance to my perspective.

T’was the day after Christmas and all through the house
Everyone was exhausted, yes, tired and worn out.

The turkey was eaten, the dressing all gone.
The presents un-wrapped, the garbage put out.

Christmas! How we love it, how glad when it’s gone.
Too much work, too much food, too much . . .

The silence is golden but the celebrations were grand.
Family and friends and church and such . . .

God willing, a New Year is coming with Christmas at the end.
Glory to God! Let the joy and good news begin.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all year long
O what fun it is to dream of Christmas on the way.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all year long
O what fun it is to plan for next year’s Christmas day.

Life and living - the real stuff - isn't confined to yesterday. Yet, my life is defined by what I do with the things I have seen and heard in the Christmas story. All year, I praise and glorify God for his story -- the most wonderful story I've ever heard. And that keeps the blues away.

Dear Father, thank you for Christ, our Savior and Lord. Enable me to glorify his holy name all year by sharing the good news with others. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Today glorify God and chase the blues away,
