Rejoice

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NIV)

On the way to the kitchen to make coffee, Bobbie opened the curtains to allow the morning light in. A much needed rain was falling. She had hoped, however, that today she could enjoy beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

Someone said, "Into every life a little rain must fall." So it is with our lives. We have our ups and downs. Everything doesn’t always “go our way.” Sometimes life presents us with situations and experiences that are neither positive nor great and wonderful. This is the reality of life, but through the sunshine and rain, through all suffering and pain we are blessed!

Looking out the kitchen window, Bobbie remembered a chorus her friend used to sing: “It's a great day to be alive, a great day to be singing. I’ve got joy in my soul, I want the whole world to know. It’s a great day to be alive! It’s a great day to be alive!” (author unknown). So, she began thinking: what a great day to be alive, how can I be depressed?

What a great day to rejoice in the Lord! When we think of what Christ has done for us, and how He lives in our hearts, it makes us want to shout praises to his name. When we consider how blessed we are, everyday becomes a great day regardless of the weather outside. So, rather than being depressed over the weather and all circumstances without sunshine or blue skies, we rejoice in our soul!

We want the whole world to know it is a great day to be alive! We want the whole world to know it’s a great day in Christ! Regardless of our circumstances, we can enjoy His blessings everyday! Today is a day for rejoicing because we are alive in Christ!

Dear Father, thank you for reminding us that today is a great day. Inspire us with the joy of rainy days so that we might bless you even more for the sunny ones. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
