Awesome!

Say to God, "How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. All the earth shall worship You And sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name." (Psalm 66:3-4 NKJ)

Awesome. The word sort of sticks in the mind, quietly reverberating through my thoughts. Why? Awesome is a great word!  It's an often-used word, commonly heard in many unusual contexts. Is it possible that we use it too often, too easily.

According to most dictionaries, awesome points toward something impressive; something overwhelming; something admirable; something fearful. Of course, we can use it "as a general term of enthusiastic approval" which is how it is commonly used.

Awesome. Toddlers think chicken nuggets are. Teens think their current relationship is. Grandmothers think their grandchildren are. My grandson thinks I am. Our favorite junk food may be good or even delicious, but there is someone greater. People are beautiful and , God said so (Gen. 1:31), but there is someone greater.  Grandpas are good men and a blessings to their grandchildren but there is someone greater.

Bobbie and I have traveled across our country, as well as across Canada, and we have looked on some truly awe-inspiring scenery . . . God's handiwork. There is nothing more beautiful than the Adirondacks in Autumn. Yet, the Rockies are different but just as spell-binding in their beauty. Snow glistening in the moonlight has absolutely no equal. The northern lights are mesmerizing. Seen from offshore at night, the lava pouring out of an earthquake as it proceeds to the sea cannot be adequately described.

Then I think of a greater reality still. It is the work of God's grace in the hearts of men and women, boys and girls. No wonder the Psalmist shouted, "How awesome are your works!" The Creator of the universe and all that is therein, He is AWESOME!

I am so glad he adopted me into his family! So I sing praises unto him. Lord, You deserve the glory and the honor and the praises. You are awesome!

Dear Father, we praise you for your awesome works. Overwhelm us with your glorious works and power today. I ask this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Proclaim the awesome Christ today,
