Love

"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." (Ephesians 5:2 NKJ)

O love of God, it is so pure.
It lingers long and does endure.
He does not change, I do not pine.
His love shall ever more be mine.

He laid down his life for his friends.
There is no greater love than this.
He is my friend and I am his.
My life his command superintends.

Life can be so frustrating. Our patience is tested as life vexes our spirits. Then we are jerked up short as some disappointment disrupts life. But perhaps we are reminded that our personal preferences do not drive this world.

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you" (John 15:13-14 NKJ). Boy, I am glad he calls me "friend!" With a friend like him, I am not afraid of any enemy.

His commands set aside our self-centered attitude and behaviors. His commands point us to follow his example. And that may sound impossible, yet we tend to focus on what we can't do. But remember that we are no longer enslaved by the unloving, selfish power of sin. We are liberated by his love and into a loving relationship with him. Our love for him directs our choices and all possibilities!

Christ strengthens our patience and empowers our love, even in those vexing times. Now, his enduring love sustains us to obey and do his will.

Dear Father, thank you for your never-ending love. Empower us to celebrate your love by obeying your every command. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Celebrate your liberty to love and obey today,
