Decisions

"Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way." (1Corinthians 12:31 NIV)

So many choices in North American life. We can easily get lost in the morass of alternatives that surround us. Many times we miss the two or three front-runners . . . the best choice. Perhaps we can't even identify them as the best.

The Corinthian believers confused spirituality with the right preachers, the right practices, the right gifts, and so forth. And Paul, the Apostle, explained that they should strive for what is truly "the best" in life. Sometimes we are so inundated with the complexities of life that we simply avoid deciding between the choices.

As we follow Christ, many choices are permissible and acceptable, yet they are not spiritually beneficial (1 Corinthians 6:12). There are some other, better choices. If we are not careful, we will get lost in the candy store of dreams and miss the will of God. We might even become paralyzed by the number of opportunities and available choices.

The best approach is to renew our perspective and eliminate choices. Choose from the best options available and seek the will of God (Romans 12:1-2). The wise individual always walks in simplicity and rejects the complex. The choices become easier and more obvious.

Are there too many choices? Look for the best way to achieve God's purpose in your life. You can't follow every opportunity. Eliminate the problem with a limited number of core values. Let your values identify the best decision for your life and ministry. You'll love it!

Dear Father, thank you for giving us your best. Grant us the grace to give you our best. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Decide today to pursue the most excellent way,
