"But the LORD
has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge." (Psalm 94:22 NKJ)
Psalm 94 is a song
about the righteous vengeance of God.
Here the songwriter examines how unbelievers think of God. They are proud and
wicked. They are insolent and boast themselves against God and his people, but
God is our defense.
The unbelievers are
a constant affliction to God's people, with no concern for the underprivileged
or marginalized people of society. They say, "God neither sees what we do
nor hears what we say." Yet, the One who is my defense, not only sees and
hears everything, he knows every thought too (v. 11).
And he defends me
against the enemy of my soul. He instructs me how to live. He gives me rest
from my misfortune and hardship. He
never rejects my requests. His promises are my inheritance, so I am never
forsaken. What a defense!
Who can accuse me?
Christ has cleared me! Who can condemn me? Christ has died in my place! Plus
Christ has risen and sits right by the Father interceding for me constantly.
Because he is my defense, nothing will take away my love for him!
If it hadn't been
for his help, I would still be in fear and bondage of death and the grave. When
I slip, his mercy and grace supports me. When the shadows of the valley and the
multitude of anxieties overwhelm me, he comforts me.
So, my God -- he who
sees all and hears all and knows all -- is my defense. In all situations and
circumstances; everyday and in every way, God is my refuge! When I think of
what he has done for me. It makes me shout praises to his holy name. It makes
me want to glorify his name.
Dear Father, in
gratitude and praise I glorify you. Empower me to daily live so that you are
glorified in me. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Accept Christ's
defense today,
