Spirit and Attitude

"But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJ)

Have you ever been in a crowded restaurant and noticed how people around you react? As we survey the crowd there will be grumpy expressions, tired expressions, happy expressions and all sorts of others.

Some people will haughtily demand different tables and rather rudely give the servers a hard time. And a few will pleasantly greet the servers and ask them about their day. Then they will courteously sit, happily chatting together while the servers bring them their drink and food. They'll smile at those around them, generally bringing cheer to all in their sphere.

Isn't it amazing how some folks always complain about the smallest detail? But there are others who adjust their attitudes and react positively to every situation. We all prefer to eat and fellowship with this second group. It is a blessing to be with them anytime.

Well, there are some lessons we can learn even in a restaurant. Instead of going in with an attitude of "I'm not going to like this," we could approach every situation with a renewed spirit and attitude. How might the days of our lives improve?

Renewing our spirit and attitude is such a simple lesson, but one that will serve us well for all eternity. Taking off the old and putting on the new is how we are taught concerning Christ. The new includes our spirit and attitude, doesn't it?

Dear Father, thank you for a new spirit and attitude. Empower us to constantly renew both spirit and attitude as we live for Christ. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Renew your spirit and attitude,
