Promise of Blessings

"Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3 NKJ)

As I sit and ponder the "new" year of days and weeks and months ahead, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the unknowns. If the "future fairy" would just map it all out for me and present me with the appropriate schedule of appointments and resources and assurances and successes. Oh, yeah!

Well, now that the fantasy has passed and I'm back to reality . . . it is time to get to begin. Where does one start? Prayer, perhaps? Thinking about Abram and God's promise, it seems logical that Abram gave serious thought to his future and committed it to the Lord in prayer. Then God responded to Abram with this marvelous promise.

All our fretting, all our desires are but signs of personal struggles for a future. Like lines in an unwritten poem. Sometimes we fret and worry without reason. Sometimes we desire things out of season. And the road we take diverges into the undergrowth of the future.

And that is good because it requires us to trust the One who has promised to bless us. We get on with life knowing that he is in control. We step out in faith despite our misgivings because he is guiding us along the way. He is indeed the God of fulfilled promises, and if I truly seek his will, plan and purpose, he will make my future be more than I can imagine now.

God's promise was multi-faceted. Abram would receive blessings and Abram would bless others.  Because of God's promise, I can release doubt and fear anticipating a future of blessings, both to me and through me.

Dear Father, thank you for calling me into this new year of blessings. Empower me to walk each day in the confidence of your promises. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Today be blessed with God's promise,
