Thanksgiving Always

"Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; And let them say among the nations, 'The LORD reigns.'" (1Chronicles 16:31 NKJ)

To Israel, the Ark of the Covenant was God's presence and shekinah. It had been returned to them, so they brought it back to Jerusalem and placed it in the tent especially prepared for it. Think what it must have been like for them. They were in the presence of the LORD once again! And they shouted praises and rejoiced together. What a great worship event this was!

King David encourages their worship and leads their singing himself. He reminds them to sing their worship to God; to rejoice in God; to search for more of God; and to remember God’s marvelous activity for Israel.

As 1 Chronicles 16 portrays, worship is personal and can be done everywhere at anytime. God's praises can be sung to others. Indeed, worship of God consists of telling others about him and his deeds. Worship occurs when we become so excited about God that all we can do is express it with a shout: “the LORD is great and greatly to be praised" (v. 25).

Let us note how this passage is entitled: "David's Psalm of Thanksgiving." During our annual season of thanksgiving, we worship God for his presence and work in our lives. Aren't you glad that God's presence and shekinah is not contained in a box? Aren't you glad that he is in control at all times and in all places? There is always something for which we can praise and thank God!

All that is left to be said then is . . . "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting" (v. 36).

Dear Father, thank you for your presence in our lives. Grant to us the joy of living in your presence. May we never keep silent about you. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today always giving thanks to God,
