Living In God's Presence

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Psalm 121 (KJV)

David was depressed from all the bad news in his kingdom. Every bit of information he received was negative. As he stood on the top of the palace and considered his options carefully, he thought how wonderful it would be to find a hiding place, a refuge from the storms of life. As he analyzed the up and downs of his life, he decided that the downs exceeded the ups.

He looked off into the distance and gloomily considered that hermitage in the hills would be better than what he had to put up with. “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all,” he says to the clouds overhead. The gloom, despair, and agony weighed as heavily on his spirit as the anvil at the blacksmith shop. As he contemplated where he might find relief, a voice from the spirit world spoke to him, “Run, hide in the hills yonder. You’ll be safe there. You won’t have to be responsible there. Hurry, get to the hills before disaster strikes.”

Positive affirmations began exploding in his spirit and mind, like lightning across the skies. “My help comes in the presence of Jehovah. The Creator of the universe is on my side.” Deep down in his soul, David felt the tremor. “God will not allow me to be destroyed. The One who protects me and my kingdom never dozes nor sleeps.”

The spiritual tremors increased to about two on the Hallelujah scale. “Jehovah is my protector and comfort. He will allow neither the heat of the day nor the cold of the night to trouble me. David’s soul reverberates with positive, joyful worship. The demons of gloom, despair, and agony race away, chased by the chariots of joy and praise.

King David continues, “Jehovah protects me from evil. He protects my soul.” The spiritual quakes are now exceeding 9.5 on the Hallelujah scale. “Jehovah will protect me when I come in and when I go out. He will protect me continually for ever!” The King’s servants and family are racing around trying to discover what all the commotion on the roof is about. Neighbors, three streets over are awakened by David’s shouts of victory.

Dear Father, thank you for your presence and the confidence you bring to our souls. Enable us to confidently hide in your presence. Empower us with the comfort of your refuge. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today living in God's presence,
