Songs of Praise

"Praise the Lord! Praise him according to his excellent greatness!" (Psalm 150:1-2)

Many of the Psalms were written by Israel's King David. He was no stranger to the vagaries of life. And despite what was occurring at any point of time, King David took time to pen praises and sing them to God. David clearly understood that gratitude and worship is appropriate in all our circumstances.

"Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises to our God" (Psalm 147:1 KJV). "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord" (Psalm 150:6 KJV). "In everything give thanks" (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

In James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans, there is a character named David Gamut who is a devout Christian. Like King David, Mr. Gamut believes that God is good all the time and should be praised at all times and in as many ways as possible. What a marvelous practice!

O God, form me by your grace,
Help me walk free of sin's trace;
Give me what I need today,
With my life I trust your will and way.

What's happening with you today? A day of tests? A day of blessings? No matter what, remember Paul's exhortation, and give praise and gratitude in every situation. Sing the praises of Christ knowing that he rules our lives.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Empower us with a spirit of gratitude and a song of praise. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today singing praise to Christ,
