Believing, Confessing, Praying

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” (James 5:16-18 KJV)

What would you do if God told you that rain would be restrained or released by your prayers? Do you think it might affect your faith and relationship with him?

Yet this is the quality of faith that God desires from his disciples. Jesus said, “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20 KJV; see also 21:21 & Mark 11:23).

It is difficult for us to relate to the Prophet Elijah. But we must remember that he “was a man subject to like passions as we are.” And James implies that since Elijah had faith to restrain and release rain, so can we have faith for our situations. In God’s eyes, we are no different than Elijah.

After all, God restrained and released the rain. Elijah only believed God. And God will move the mountains in our lives, when we believe God. The fervent prayers of righteous people are effective when powered by God’s word.

Dear Father, thank you for your Word. Enable us to exercise mountain-moving faith. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
